Elitsa Stoyanova - Book Cover recreation of Murakami’s Norwegian Wood

“This project was about recreating the existing book cover of Norwegian Wood as part of the Penguin Student Awards last year. The design is mainly inspired by pop art, which emerged in the 60s, the period within which the novel is set. Black and white here represent the duality that occurs throughout the story, rich with life and death, love and pain, and characters with opposed personalities. Someone told me the cover also resembles manga, which was unintentional, but I thought this was a though-provoking comparison.

I designed the book cover as a gateway to understanding the book – which I highly recommend!”
