Rhiannon Rees - ‘The Condensation Project’
'The Condensation Project' is a series based around water droplets formed on the windows of my home. There are parallels to be drawn between windows and paintings. I believe that windows, like paintings, are to be looked through, not at. Like paint on a canvas, the condensation on my window invites the viewer. This project has arisen from conditions imposed by lockdown. I have a small studio at home which has restricted the size of my works. Capturing a sense of place is central to my practice. I have also been using everyday items such as KitKat wrappers, packaging from a book - and my trusted oil sticks and watercolours. For me, paint itself carries a childhood nostalgia, a substance I inherently relate with play. I am a painter concerned with the materiality of paint itself, and painting processes through minimalistic forms that produces a kind of ethereal result.
